My friend Beth came to stay at the weekend, and I realised after she left that she had been the absolutely perfect sleepover guest. So here I present to you, my tips on how to ‘be more Beth.’
Bring a bottle of champagne. I’m very much in my champagne era right now. I’ve been inspired by some friends of mine who drink it exclusively at home, even when it’s just the two of them. It’s not a pretentious thing, more a treating-every-day like its precious thing and I’m all for it.
Choose your slot. I love you, but I don’t need to socialise with anyone for more than four hours straight in one sitting, even if I haven’t seen you for ten years. Come for dinner, leave after breakfast.
Help with bedtime. If you’ve planned this right (like Beth), you’ve shown up at about 6pm. This means you can help put the kids to bed. I know it’s exhausting but it’s better with company and I will be so, so grateful that it might almost make it worthwhile.
Do it yourself. Megan Markle I am not. The biggest compliment to me is a friend who feels comfortable enough to rifle around in my cupboards looking for sugar. Make your coffee, find the bread and jam and don’t ask my permission. You really are welcome.
