What happened when my flight turned into Squid Games

(A bumper edition featuring... my surprising love for London City airport, the most amazing burnt aubergine chilli, Robbie Williams, a happy house in Fleet and much more).

Crazed on a plane

Before I tell you about the Squid Games stuff, can I just share a little bit of the love I feel for London City airport? It might come in handy for you. Because nobody really considers it, do they? And they should. I’ve flown from there a few times now.

The airport parking is a five-minute walk from the terminal. It’s almost laughable, like you’re in a little a toy town. And then inside everything is incredibly efficient.

I waited for zero minutes to go through security. Literally, there was no queue at all. And they didn’t even want me to take my laptop out or all the other gubbins, so it was just calm. A pleasingly smug experience.

Even the fellow passengers are lovely, probably because they are also feeling calm and smug. When I was wandering around with my two kids, a random lady came up to me and said, ‘did you know there’s a soft play bit down there?’ I did not. And there wasn’t even a mouse in it like the one I went to at Heathrow.

Anyway. Like I say. London City Airport is the best. But my luck ran out when we got to the gate.
