When life gives you lemons... run away?
No lemonade here, just a one-way plane ticket and a bulging suitcase.
When times get hard, as they have this week, I like to fantasise about leaving the country and starting a new life somewhere else. Call it survival for the conflict-averse! Here are my top three escape destinations.
Singapore
Singapore me is usually wearing a radiant maxi-dress and has a permanently dewy complexion, thanks to the humidity. I look at least ten years younger than UK me because I have a helper at home who makes my life about 10,000 times easier. At the weekends, when she isn’t around (or when I haven’t ‘popped over’ to Bali), I take my kids down to the communal pool where they splash about with their little expat pals while I sunbathe and read the latest Taylor Jenkins-Reid. Friends back in the UK ask me if I find Singapore life boring, and I snort into my iced kopi. Yes, I do. And it’s blissful. Long live boredom!
